I am happy to be back in the Pittsburgh area and so fortunate to be a part of the staff at Riverstone Books.  Recently retired from 30+ years as school librarian in Northern VA with the last 10 years as head high school librarian, and I am very excited to serve as the advisor to the Riverstone Books Teen Council.  Mysteries are my favorite, and that goes for any genre that has some type of mystery to solve in between the book covers.

This is fiction, yet I found it fascinating, plausible, and I read this in one day.

After 10 years, Girl A - the one who got free of her shackles and escaped her family’s house of horrors shares her story of how her loving parents became abusers, and where all of her siblings are now.  I liked that the author does not focus on the abuse as we have all seen such stories sensationalized in the news.  What we don’t hear about in the news is what happens after the kids are rescued.  We never hear about them again so they must be fine.  Because Girl A was the one to escape, psychologists and others feel that she is the strongest and most likely to have a normal life.  Sounds good, but I’m not sure that I agree. I don’t think that any of these children will ever be “fine”.
